The sustained exercise of authority
or power by one group or person over another, in an unjust manner.
Often entailing the elevation of one set of values or way of
being over another. The parties may or may not be conscious of
it. Classically, oppressors are less conscious of the dynamic
than those they oppress.
Internalized oppression
This refers to the dynamic of an oppressed person or group adopting
the values or attitudes of the oppressor, often without awareness
that the oppressive views or feelings towards oneself or
one’s group have been internalized.
Class oppression
The economic and social patterns and structures which tend to
prevent economic, political and social advantages from spreading,
and which is based on a complex of factors including education,
income, occupation and parental occupation, outlook, language,
culture, etc.
Religious and Spiritual oppression
This takes a variety of forms, and involves prejudice against
and denigration of others based on religion and spirituality.
